Where are you originally from, where do you go to school and what year are you?
I am originally from the Greater Atlanta area. This is my final year as a Master of Public Health (health promotion and behavior concentration) student at Georgia State University.
What activities are you involved with at school?
Since 2014, I have been a Graduate Administrative Assistant for Facility Management in the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.
Why did you choose to intern at Pea Pod?
I chose to intern at Pea Pod for a few reasons. To begin, when I became pregnant with my daughter I became very interested in lactation and the idea of being able to provide my daughter with all of the nutrition she needed while building her immune system, all from my body. Also, during pregnancy, my significant other and I started to make healthier dietary choices and I became interested in nutrition. Ultimately, I wanted to experience firsthand some of the tasks and duties it takes to run a non-profit organization geared toward lactation and nutritional health and human services.
Best thing about the Pea Pod office?
The best thing about the Pea Pod office is the whole ambiance. Whether you walk into the waiting room or in the office for a consultation, you just feel a calming presence. My favorite is the waiting room because there is such a variety of activities for the children to engage in and remain entertained.
Favorite intern project and why?
My favorite intern task, is getting the opportunity to observe lactation and nutrition appointments. Getting “real life” accounts and seeing first-hand what the Executive Director of Pea Pod does is priceless! My favorite, actual project is searching for grants through Grant station and other grant entities. I enjoy doing this because I understand how important grants are to help run a nonprofit organization to make health services available to the public.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A “typical” day for me consists of early mornings cooking breakfast for my family, attending class, my practicum, or work, then homework for myself, preparing dinner, and spending quality time with my family from reading and playing games to family dinner, laughing/talking, and enjoying one another.
If you could add one snack to the office what would it be?
If I could add one snack to the office, as unhealthy as it is, it would have to be Duchess Honey Buns. My all-time cheat day snack!
What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
As far as tangible things are concerned, I could not live with my support system – God, my partner, my daughter, my parents, my family, and my friends are what keep me going and striving to achieving all of my life aspirations.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could travel anywhere in the world I would travel to Bora Bora simply for all of its exotic beauty.
My favorite phone application is NPR – National Public Radio. I love how I can stay connected to what is going on in the world without actually watching the news which I totally despise.
Favorite TV show to binge watch?
I love to binge watch Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix!!
